Everything you need to know about Second Skin

Since launching in 2019, our Second Skin foundation has become a makeup bag staple for so many people, from teenagers at school to busy Mums on the go! At Sculpted, we are passionate about makeup but we are also extremely mindful of what we put on our skin. We love to wear products that give us that fresh & flawless effect, but we don’t like anything too heavy or anything that’s going to damage our skin.

That’s where Second Skin comes in.. 

Why Choose Mineral?

There are a lot of benefits of wearing mineral makeup as it is generally considered the safest option for your skin. This is because it adheres to the natural oils in your skin and it won’t seep into your pores, making it completely non-comedogenic (this just means no clogged pores).

Mineral Makeup allows your skin to breathe but still gives you the coverage you need, along with a built in SPF thanks to an ingredient called titanium dioxide. It’s suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive. Contrary to all the misconceptions around wearing mineral makeup, it will actually be really long lasting on the skin and will usually contain ingredients that help to slow down the ageing process.

About the Formula 

We know that makeup, especially foundation, can’t just be a one size fits all kind of product, and this is the main reason as to why we developed both a matte and a dewy finish in Second Skin.

Both Second Skin finishes contain Hyaluronic acid. This hero ingredient works to intensely hydrate the skin, which we believe every skin type needs. Both finishes also have SPF50 for UVA & UVB protection, but there’s no need to worry, the SPF in Second Skin will not cause any flashback as the formula is not mixed with any heavy powders and is completely talc-free. 

Second Skin is fragrance free, non comedogenic, anti-oxidising and it also contains collagen which works to rejuvenate the skin. 

So What’s The Difference Between Matte & Dewy? 

To ensure we cater to everyone's skin types and preferences, our Second Skin foundation is available in two finishes. Second Skin Dewy was created with normal to dry skin types in mind. It contains natural oils like aloe vera oil, which helps to soothe the skin and has some great anti-aging benefits as it helps to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and dry skin. Our dewy version also contains lavender oil which helps to calm the skin with its anti-inflammatory and detoxifying benefits. Both of these nourishing oils work wonders for skin that naturally has a lot of redness. Second Skin dewy leaves a gorgeously glossy finish and is perfect for those who aren’t afraid of the glow.

Our other finish, Second Skin Matte was created for those who have a normal to oily skin type and it’s completely oil free. It gives you all the benefits of our dewy finish but instead, it contains Aloe vera oil extract & Lavender oil extract. You still get all the skin calming and soothing benefits, just without the extra oil. As oily skin can be more breakout prone, a lot of people tend to go for the highest coverage foundation with the most matte finish, but the beauty of Second Skin matte is that it will never actually look too matte on the skin. You can kiss goodbye to that heavy, cakey foundation look and let your oily skin enjoy a natural radiance that glows in all the right places but yet still looks like real skin.

The Coverage 

Second Skin has a medium buildable coverage which basically means that it’s customisable to your preference. One layer (1-2 pumps) will give you an instant medium coverage, but you can also choose to wear it with less coverage by mixing it with a pump of moisturiser or our with one of our beloved Beauty Base primers. Likewise you can build up the coverage by adding more pumps where needed,  or layering with a higher coverage concealer like Complete Cover Up. 

The Application 

To apply Second Skin we recommend our Complexion Duo brush or our full buffer brush for a beautiful airbrushed finish that’s super quick & easy to apply. If you prefer to apply foundation with your fingers or a sponge, that’s totally fine to do also.

We suggest applying your usual morning skincare routine, popping on some Beauty Base primer and then finishing your base with Second Skin. From there, you can then choose to add concealer, setting powder and anything else you love to use to complete your entire makeup look. 

The Shades 

We currently have 30 Shades of Second Skin in a range of undertones, and each shade comes in both the matte and the dewy finish. We do our best to help you easily find your shade through our Virtual Try On service, the use of findation.com through our website, our comparisons to other popular brands and of course, by DM or email where we will always be on hand to answer your questions.

We also have Second Skin Sample sachets available on our website that you can purchase for just €1.50/£1.25. This is a great way to test your shade and the formula before committing to a full 50ml tube, which retails at €27/£25.
