Do you struggle to achieve a flawless base in your makeup routine? Learning to perfect your base is a total game changer, and perhaps one of the most important steps in any makeup routine! It’s crucial to ensure that you prep the skin with the correct products, choose the correct shades to suit your skin tone and to also have the correct tools to blend your products well into the skin.
Achieving a flawless base can be difficult for some and that’s why we have developed these key steps for you to follow, to ensure you achieve a long lasting, flawless base!
1. Prep is key
The first key step to achieving a flawless base is to make sure you prep it well. It’s so important that you make sure to cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin beforehand.
The more hydrated your skin is, the more seamless it will look!
To add some moisture and plump the skin, we firstly go in with our Beauty Base 3 in 1 primer. Beauty Base is our innovative primer, SPF provider and moisturizer all in one, so you do not need to worry about adding layer after layer of different products when you can achieve everything from Beauty Base!
Beauty Base contains beauty-boosting ingredients to provide an extra surge of hydration and amp up your glow game, such as Hyaluronic Acid, SPF 30 for UVA and UVB protection, and skin loving peptides. Beauty Base also provides the skin with a blurring effect so it minimises the appearance of pores and evens out your skin tone. We offer Beauty Base in two finishes; Beauty Base Original and Beauty Base Pearl.
Our original Beauty Base gives the skin a more golden, luminescent finish whereas Pearl is more pinkier and pearlescent in colour. Both are suitable for all skin tones and types, it’s just down to preference!
We recommend you blend this into the skin using the warmth of your fingertips as it really helps to soak it into the skin.
Beauty Base is the key step to ensuring that your skin is prepped for any more products that are placed on top!
2. Foundation- Buff it in!
The second key step to perfecting your base is your foundation. Of course, we cannot recommend anything other than our amazing Second Skin mineral foundation. We all know how beneficial it is to choose mineral makeup over anything else! Our Second Skin Foundation offers a medium- buildable coverage and does not set into any fine lines. It comes in two formulas, both Matte and Dewy. If you are prone to having more oiler skin, especially in your T-Zone, then we would recommend the matte finish. If you prefer more of a luminous, radiant finish to the skin, then Dewy is for you.
Whichever you choose, both still offer a super breathable formula to the skin and have lots of added ingredients that help to restore your skin’s natural barrier such as Collagen and Camomile Oil for anti-ageing, Lavender Oil to calm the skin and Aloe Vera to soothe the skin.
We recommend you use one of our beloved Buffer Brushes or our Complexion Brush to apply this as both really work the product into the skin to ensure that it will not budge throughout the day. The great thing about Second Skin is that it is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores or cause breakouts, so you can wear as much as you like, completely guilt free!
Also, if you’re not a big fan of brushes, you can always blend it in simply by using the warmth of your fingers, there are no rules as such, and some would say using your hands makes for an even quicker application!
3. Concealers for any added touch ups!
After you apply your foundation, it’s time to go in with your concealers, Brighten Up and Complete Cover Up. The difference between these two is really down to the formula.
Brighten Up is enriched with Niacinamide and is best used under the eyes or any areas you would like to ‘Brighten Up’ (Literally!). The skin under the eyes is so delicate that it’s important to be mindful about what you put there, but ‘Brighten Up’ provides a veil of extra hydration for a smooth and crease free finish.
Complete Cover Up differs in that it is more of a thicker consistency, and we like to apply this product to any areas we may feel needs that extra touch up, such as redness, hyperpigmentation or breakouts!
Both of these products can be applied again with our Complexion Brush, as it offers a double ended side with a bigger end for larger areas and a smaller, more dense brush head for precise application.
Using both of these concealers really helps to even out any areas that need that extra bit of attention, but they also give you a boost of confidence knowing that your base looks super flawless.
4. A touch of colourFor a touch of colour to your base, you can always go in with a sweep of our Beauty Blocks 4 in 1 palette. This palette contains a cream highlighter and powder highlighter, Bronzer and Blush customised to suit your skin tone.
Use the bronzer where the sun naturally hits the skin which is normally around the forehead, cheekbones, nose and chin. With bronzer, it’s better to build up the colour rather than going in with too much at once, so be mindful to use a light hand when applying! We recommend applying this with our Setter Brush as the bristles are angled which makes placing your blush even easier!
Apply the cream and powder highlighter to the highest points of your cheekbones, Cupid’s Bow and Brow Bone for that added bit of luminosity. Remember, less is more, you can always add more but it’s much harder to take away!
5. Powder
If you don’t want your base to move throughout the day, then we recommend you use a touch of setting powder to any areas where you may get shiny, especially the T-Zone.
We recommend you use a translucent powder such as Laura Mercier as this will not change the colour of your foundation but still keep it intact.
Take one of our Perfecter Brushes and Sweep the powder across the T-Zone and chin to set everything into place.
6. Lock it all into place!
And of course, to finish everything off and to really lock everything into place, you can always go in a quick spritz of our Hydrate & Hold Setting Spray. This is enriched with citrusy lemon extract for skin hydration and to control the skin’s oils and Centella Asiatica extract to strengthen the skin’s barrier and prevent ageing.
And there you have it! 6 Quick and Easy Steps to achieve an airbrushed, perfected base that will last you for the entire day. This is so simple to achieve and super versatile for everyone!
