How To: Touch up your Makeup on the go

"Perfectly applied makeup doesn’t need to be touched up”.. maybe so, but let’s face it, there isn’t always time to sit down and perfectly apply everything. Unless your makeup is magic, there’s probably going to be a little transfer or movement, right?
With that being said, we thought we’d take the time to share some of our best practices for touching up your makeup on the go!
1. Hydrate
The more hydrated your skin is, the better everything works, and we really mean everything! Spritz your favourite facial mist, like Hydrate & Hold and allow it to soak into your skin before continuing your touch up process.
This will rehydrate your skin, helping it to appear more glowy & plump, but it will also help to control oil build up on the skin, which is what makes you look shiny! Remember there’s a difference between being glowy and being shiny, glowy means that the light hits you in all the right places and shiny means the light is hitting you everywhere, which isn’t always very flattering.
Hydrate & Hold cares for your skin with Hyaluronic Acid and Centella Asiatica, but it’s the Lemon extract that helps to control the oil/shine.
The best part is, you can spray this before makeup, after makeup, and also as many times as you like throughout the day! So if you feel like a little touching up is needed, try a spritz or two of Hydrate & Hold first and see what difference it makes to your skin.
2. Blend
Whether it’s with a foundation brush, sponge or just your fingertips, we suggest blending what’s already there to even it out and smooth any creases or movement that may have happened. This is even easier to do after you have spritzed Hydrate & Hold and allowed it to soak in. Just Run your brush over the parts of your face that need a little perfecting, it’s like creating a new base for anything else needed on top, without adding too much extra product.
3. Coverage
Just ‘touching up’ doesn’t mean applying a whole new layer of foundation over the existing one. If this is what works for you then great, but it may result in layering too much product, which in turn creates more texture on the skin and can cause your pores to become clogged. Instead, what we at Sculpted like to do is take a little pot of coverage concealer, like Complete Cover Up and apply it to those areas that need a little more TLC after you’ve lived out part of your day. Complete Cover Up is a non comedogenic, mineral formula which means there’s less chance of clogged pores.
It’s also oil free and has a semi matte finish, so by applying it as a touch up product, it helps to not only smooth out areas of the skin and add coverage, but also to control shine and mattify the face slightly, giving your makeup a ‘freshly applied’ look. It works wonders over breakouts, redness and even dark circles, it just gives a little bit of confidence back to the areas you feel you need it the most.
4. Colour play
It’s one thing to touch up concealer, but have you ever tried touching up your blush? It genuinely is a game changer. Blush gives the appearance of healthy, youthful skin and kind of ties a whole makeup look together, reapplying it as a touch up just reinforces how healthy and fresh you are.
You don’t have to be a die hard blush fan to wear it, try a neutral shade or something that compliments your eye colour, and build it up gradually to your desired colour. We adore a cream blush, especially when we know a touch up may be required later in the day, as creams melt into the skin seamlessly and give a more natural finish.
Our Cream Luxe collection has stolen the hearts of many and are available in 5 Blush shades, 5 bronzer shades and 3 Glow shades. All of our Cream Luxe compacts come in the cutest gold compact that also features a mirror, which makes touching up on the go even easier. Apply your blush to the apples of the cheeks for a fresh and youthful finish, or apply it higher onto the cheekbones for that ‘lifted’ look. One of the main reasons we like to keep a Cream Luxe blush in our bags is that you can freshen your complexion with it but you can also use them on the lips, and we just LOVE good multi purpose product!
5. Powder
This may be a personal preference element, but we find that knowing in advance you may need to touch up throughout the day calls for not powdering at all, (or at least very little) when you first apply your makeup in the morning! Why? Well, when you powder you set everything in place, but when it comes to touching up or fixing areas of your makeup, it can be quite difficult to do so over powder!
If you apply anything cream or liquid based over powder, it can crumble and create texture on the skin, so instead, we like to take our powder with us and use it as the last step in our touch up routine after we’ve applied everything else. Adding a little powder to the areas of your face that have created more oil than you would have hoped, helps to mattify the shine and leave a more polished look on the skin! Our Velvet Veil - Pressed Setting Powder Mini is perfect for touching up on the go, and the ideal size to pop into your handbag.
If you’re someone who just can’t live without powder in the mornings, try applying less than usual and maybe just pinpoint specific shiny areas that need it, rather than powdering and setting the whole face. A loose powder like Velvet Veil Setting Powder is perfect for creating a smooth and set look without caking or compromising your glow.
