Skin Tips: How much product should I use?

How much is too much? Does it make a difference if you wear less?

We use skincare and makeup almost every day, but have you ever stopped to think about how much of each product you should be using?

With endless products and endless information online, it can sometimes get a little overwhelming. We thought we would step in and break it down for you with some advice on how to use some of our gorgeous skin loving products!

Serum - HydraGlo

Serums tend to have lighter, thinner formulas made up of smaller molecules which will penetrate into your skin deeper and quicker. You’ll want to cover your face in a thin, light layer so that the product can penetrate your skin quickly.

As a general rule of the thumb, about two pumps of serum is sufficient for it to work its magic.

Although we are suggesting two pumps, if you feel your skin needs more, with HydraGlo, our new hydrating serum, you can’t really overdo it, so it is safe to add another pump if necessary.

However, if you are using a serum with active ingredients like Salicylic Acid or Retinol for example, you may want to reduce the amount you use or target where you use it until your skin can build up a tolerance to it.

Primer - Beauty Base

Depending on the primer & your reason for using it, the answer to this one can vary, so let us give you advice on how to use Beauty Base, our 3 in 1 moisturising primer with hyaluronic acid, peptides for skin conditioning and most importantly, SPF30 to protect your glowing skin.

If it’s SPF protection that you need, then you’ll need at least 2-3 full pumps of Beauty Base to ensure you have complete protection. When you are massaging this in, your hands shouldn't drag across your skin, instead they should glide over it effortlessly!

If your reason for a primer is to prep the skin for makeup or to add a glow, then you can get away with just 1-2 pumps of Beauty Base and this will ensure your skin stays moisturised & your makeup stays in place all day.

Tinted moisturiser - Tint & Glow

People are definitely opting for more lightweight, skin loving, natural products for their skin these days and a tinted moisturiser like Tint & Glow, gives you just that!

Enriched with hyaluronic acid & niacinamide our glowing skin enhancer gives your skin hydration, blue light protection, smoothing & brightening benefits and of course, SPF30. It’s ideal to wear as an everyday base and simply evens out the skin tone and adds a glow, but how much of it should you be using?

We would suggest starting with a coin sized amount of Tint & Glow, buffing it evenly onto the skin from the centre of the face outwards. If you feel you need a little more coverage, then apple a pea size amount more in the areas you think need it, or pair it with a concealer to build coverage selectively.

Concealer - Brighten Up

Applying too much of certain products can have the opposite effect on your skin, and under eye concealer is definitely one of those products. Remember less is always more for the delicate eye area.

When applying under eye concealer, some people tend to apply as much as physically possible to try and camouflage those dark circles, but this can make the under eyes look a lot heavier, it can actually highlight the darkness rather than hiding it and it basically gives your concealer all of the permission to cake up or crease.

We would recommend that you just apply one sweep of concealer to the under eye and blend from there, focus the product on the inner corner, where we tend to be the darkest, and let Brighten Up’s skin loving ingredients do the rest! You can also add a swipe under the outer corner of the eye to help lift the eye area, but we suggest doing this with the same swipe of product, without dipping the wand back into the tube!

Hydrating balm - Beauty Balm

Our universal moisturising balm, Beauty Balm, doesn't just have to be used on your lips! If you know us here at Sculpted we love a multi-purpose product!

A pea sized amount of our Beauty Balm massaged into the lips is more than enough to rehydrate and nourish your lips, but what about your dry sensitive skin?

Have you heard of “slugging” before? It is a K-Beauty trend which involves coating your face with an emollient style product and this helps to reduce the loss of moisture and hydration in the skin. For this we would advise a coin sized amount of Beauty Balm all over the face to really get your ‘slugging’ on. This definitely wouldn't be an everyday thing, so maybe try it once a week and see if you notice a difference in your skin’s moisture levels.

Product usage unfortunately can’t always be a one size fits all, so it’s important that you listen to your skin and really analyse what it needs, but we do hope our suggestions can help with your routine and as a bonus, you might be able to cut down on how often you need to replace your products.

Now that you know how much to use, why not learn how to layer your skincare?
